Two teams, one society, going head-to-head. The air was fresh, and the dogs aplenty down at the UQ netball courts last Wednesday night for a
match like no other. The 4th of May presented the most anticipated sporting event on UQ’s calendar. If you’re behind the times and not quite
sure what you missed, 6pm on court three hosted the highly anticipated inter-executive UQBA grudge match.
This was possibly the most exciting prospect of at least one of our teams winning a match for the season. Unfortunately the UQBA exec are
not the most athletically sound group when it comes to the ins-and-outs of netball because both the Bizballers and UQBA teams have suffered a
series of ‘close’ losses every single week.
With UQBA making up north teams, we were keen and ready for a guaranteed win, and we didn’t disappoint! With a tight margin of 14-5, it was
certainly an exhilarating match to witness.
There were some questionable demonstrations of how ‘non’ a non contact sport should be played, with the ref having to keep a close eye on
both Henry Roellgen and Harry Spicer as they worked some moves that weren’t exactly to the netball rulebook.
Exhibiting the heights of general thuggery was UQBA Secretary Madison McNaughton. She was taking no prisoners. You wouldn’t want to mess
with her… on or off the court.
The pure athleticism of Camille Masters, with her elegant shots that slipped through the ring almost every time, and the strong enthusiasm
from Spandan Das led the team ‘UQBA’ to a strong victory. Shout out to the stepping skills of Wilson Lam and Shalini Ellepola for some solid
jumps.
Also, special mention to Ailish Parr, who was forced into a season on the bench after a brutal fall at the game the week prior. Only she
could trip on someone’s foot and make it look like her own clumsy fault. However, we were lucky to still have the Pub Director along to take
some ripper snaps of the team! This is Dominic Smith signing out on the match report.
