Think about your school open day. Now think of something like that but on a much bigger scale, where new/returning students have the opportunity to join clubs, societies, and sporting teams to ensure that their year at university is enjoyable and memorable. Welcome to UQ Market Day.
Society reps were setting up bright and early for the 2017 UQ Market Day, which was just over a week ago now. Balloon arches were being made, bags of freebies had been packed the night before, and Lipton Ice Tea was on the ready, supplying free drinks for everyone at St Lucia on such a hot day.
After a phenomenal membership sign-up in 2016, UQBA executive were excited to gain just as many members in order to establish a solid foundation for events this year. Numbers did not disappoint, with a large number of first years signing up to the association. They seemed to be thrilled with the amazing networking opportunities we provide, as well as the countless opportunities to socialise and mingle within the society throughout the year.
While some people wanted membership for our phenomenal corporate events, where students have the opportunity to network with real-world professionals, others were drawn to the jam-packed social calendar our amazing events team work tirelessly to schedule. Regardless of the reason for joining UQBA, we have a member-base of over 1000 students, who all seem to enjoy being part of our society, so thankyou to everyone who bought BizPasses!
For those of you reading this and are very jealous that you don’t have 10% off at Deedot Café, or a free upside at Genies on campus, do not fear! There is always the opportunity to purchase membership online, and you can find the link to do so on our Facebook page or website.
We have so many events to look forward to this year: Professional Pathways, Pub Crawl (theme to be revealed soon, so watch this space), and of course beating every other society in the UQIC TRL competition. For now, enjoy those BizPass deals, come to every event we have on offer this semester, and do not hesitate to ask anyone on the executive for advice, help, or when happy hour is at the Red Room!
